Prelube / Soakback

Prelube

Anyone installing or rebuilding a large engine should consider a prelube system. A substantial part of large engine lifetime wear ocures at dry starts after the lube oil has drained from the bearings and the oil galleries during shutdown. An upfront investment in a prelube system can pay for itself many times over by greatly extending an engine's service life.

The EP4 pump is for DC installations requiring up to 4 GPM (15 LPM)
The CF15 pumps are for installations requiring up to 15 GPM (56.8 LPM)

EP4 Pumps can run on 12vdc or 24vdc and are a great choice for engines in the 400 to 3000 hp range
CF15 Pumps can be run from any 56 C-face motor. They are suitable for engines from 1000 to 4500 hp

Soakback

Engines with turbo will also benefit from a soakback feature. All of our prelube pumpsCF+EPCenterWeb (5K) can also be used as soakback pumps by running them after shutdown. Care must be taken to plumb the prelube pump in such a way that after the engine is shut down, oil from the prelube pump will reach the turbo.

One of the most important things to consider when choosing a pump for a given installation is the size of the pipes or hoses you plan to run. In general you want your hoses to be as big and short as possible. Long small hoses uses up precious amps with pressure drop in the hoses. This is particularly true with the suction hose. The suction hose should not be smaller than the pumps suction port and if70115_small (4K) at all possible should not be longer than 3ft (90 cm). Overly restrictive suction pipes will starve the pump and reduce output flow by causing cavitation, likewise restrictive pressure pipes will create excessive backpressure that will eat up available motor power, and reduce output flow by slowing down the pumps motor.

CF+EPRightWeb (4K)For example atmospheric pressure at sea level cannot deliver more than 4 gpm of thick oil to the suction side of any pump through 3 feet of ¾ inch hose. So no mater how big the pump is or what kind of pump it is, it can't make more than 4 gpm with the ¾ inch hose.

VARNA products is a division of Transportation Research Corp. (TRC). We were created to bring the manufacturing of TRC designs under tight in-house control. Our focus has always been on consistency and product quality. Using six Sigma methodologies we continually refine our processes to optimize quality and perfect on-time delivery. By controlling every phase of manufacturing from how components are machined to assembly training, all the way to the packaging used in shipping, we are able to guarantee the quality of each item we sell. We deal only with a select group of pre-qualified vendors for the parts we do not make and all assembly and final inspection is done right here.

VARNA is the ideal supplier to go with the ideal product solutions our parent company develops.

We believe the less the end user has to think about our product the better job we did.
